Larry’s – Venice...
Venice is a conundrum. It’s all locals and all tourists. And perhaps that’s...

Phone apps have in recent history popped up all over the place at a ridiculous rate, creating social needs and wants that we never would have had otherwise. Want your phone to moo at you? Giving yourself a lonely high-five? Just a couple of the many obscure apps that you’ll find out there.
And if that weren’t enough, we’ve stumbled upon something that just makes us think wtf. Enter, Wheretheladies.at, not just a website with a peculiar name, but a rather straightforward and peculiar future-app that will… show you where the ladies are at.
For the time being, the Wheretheladies.at service takes the aggregated data from other geo-tagging services such as Foursquare and provides a listed venue with Google Maps visualization. It tells you who/how many have checked into said venue with a thumbnail tapestry of their Facebook pictures. For now, the iPhone app is unavailable, but it’s under development; super simplistic and straightforward, the Wheretheladies.at app takes the data, and spits it back to you in the form of a blaring red compass that tells you just exactly how many individuals of the fairer sex have checked in at your desired location. The sleazy Serengeti lion hunting for his prey, receives in his furry paws, GPS coordinates for some potential lioness poon. However, it would seem that this app is best suited for those with *ahem*, furry/hairy paws to begin with.
We can’t imagine that this app serves as a good good pick-up line or icebreaker with that target cutie. There’s just something about the Facebook mug shot lineup that comes off as a bit…creepy, not to mention your social value will plummet as soon as you walk into the bar with an obscene red compass glowing brighter than the sun on your phone’s screen.
Following in the footsteps of a similar app called Assisted Serendipity, which breaks venue check-ins down into a male v. female ratio, Wheretheladies.at does seem to give a more definite stalker vibe. Probably because of the one-way information feed, there lies the danger of every techno-geek in the area flocking to the nearest location with the largest number of ladies. Guess they would need a supplementary app called Wherethemalecompetition.at.
Currently only available for the San Francisco market with plans to expand to other major metropolitan areas, it seems as though it’s only a matter of time before the service and app make their way to LA. Just in case you decide to try the service out of sheer morbid curiosity though, make sure you aren’t replying to the question “so how’d you hear about this place” with “THIS IS WHERE THE LADIES AT.” Your furry paws will most definitely be the only company you get that night.
