Each year on October 31st in the States, we dress our kids up in their favorite superhero costumes and send them on their merry way round the neighborhood streets to gather up as many free Snickers bars and packets of Peanut M&M’s as their gluttonous little paws can cling to. But for our Mexican neighbors to the south, the time of year brings a much deeper significance, and traditions with much deeper roots.

El Dia de los Muertos, the Day of the Dead, is an ancient Latin American ritual that joyously celebrates the lives of the deceased with graveyard gatherings – building ceremonial altars, offering gifts, flowers, song, dance and traditional Calavera Catrina style face painting, and reflection on the high points of the lives of the lost.

At the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, you, your friends and loved ones can take part in the largest stateside observance of the long standing tradition. Live music and Mexican cuisine will ensure that the masses of costumed and face painted revelers enjoy a different spin on a fall celebration that is dear to us all – dead or alive.
